Talks for students: The UK today

Now introducing useful links

As part of my talks for students on "The UK today", I have just launched a page with a few suggestions where they can find links and information about some of the topics we discuss. They can access this via a QR code at the end of the presentation. I hope they find them useful!

Podcast - Episode 28

Storytelling, students & social media

Episode 28 is now online. Join me and my guest, the English and psychology teacher Katharina Wendrich as we delve into how stories can help young people to discover who they are, how social media has changed the way we tell certain stories, how to help students deconstruct stories on social media, using Shakespeare to understand how perspectives can be manipulated and the importance of creating an emotional connection with your audience.

Words in context - new revised edition

The new revised edition of Words in context appeared in September 2022.

After a year and a half of reading, researching, writing, re-writing, editing and tweaking, it is finally finished. The modernised and updated texts cover four main topic areas:

  • THE INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIETY
  • CULTURE AND SPORT
  • COUNTRIES AND REGIONS
  • ISSUES AND CHALLENGES.

Students can now also use the Klett Augmented app to listen to, learn and practise the thematic words and expressions using flash cards.

And what's more, students can now hear some of the words and expressions being used by young people!

The new edition includes ten double page spreads entitled "YOUNG PEOPLE SPEAK", with authentic videos in which Gen Z talks about issues that they are passionate about: the climate emergency, mental health, gender identity, work, equality, sustainabilty and more.

A real highlight for me was interviewing young people and asking them their opinions on these topics ...
